  • COVID-19 pandemic took many lives and affected everyone in the world. While dealing with COVID-19, the world learned many lessons. And it’s important to learn the lessons to prepare ourselves for the next pandemic and prevent possible pandemics.

Lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic:

  • Countries should maintain transparency about the new infections information and should share the information with the international community immediately. Had China alerted the world about the severity of the situation immediately after knowing about the virus, all the other countries would have taken precautions much earlier and the virus could have been contained in one place. So, transparency among countries helps in taking steps to prevent the next pandemic.
  • As Covid pandemic originated probably from the wildlife trading. To prevent new zoonotic diseases in the future, steps should be taken to stop illegal wildlife trading. Natural forests should be protected as they can prevent the contact between humans and wildlife animals.
  • Lockdown to reduce the spread of Covid cleared the skies and reduced the pollution to a drastic extent. This made us realize that the damage we are doing to the environment is reversible. It taught us to focus more on sustainable development.
  • The demand for luxury goods fell to a great extent in the initial months of the pandemic. COVID-19 hit consumerist culture badly. Everyone queued up at groceries stores to buy staple foods. That taught us about what is needed in life and excessive materialism is not needed.
  • There are debates about whether Covid is a biological weapon. No one is sure about what is true but everyone agrees on the fact that the threat of bio-weapons is real. So, the international community must take steps to prevent the development of biological weapons.
  • The fight against COVID-19 taught us to be better prepared for the future. Everyone understood that there is a need for more funding, equipment and human resources in the health care industry.
  • It also taught us that vulnerable people like migrant workers will be most affected by this kind of situation. This phase taught us to take immediate steps to protect vulnerable people.
  • Living in a globalized world has advantages and disadvantages as well. Almost every country is depending on other countries for many goods. During the COVID-19 pandemic phase, when supply chains are disrupted imports and exports are badly affected, and several countries realized the importance of self-sufficiency. Moreover, depending on one country for many goods too proved a wrong step. The countries, which depended on China for pharmaceutical products, and electrical & electronic equipment struggled when the Covid pandemic forced countries to impose transport restrictions. Now, more and more countries are diversifying their supply chains.
  • During this phase, many companies especially IT companies allowed their employees to work from home. It reduced traffic and enabled people to spend more time with their families. COVID-19 taught companies that work from home option is not as bad as they thought. Now, several companies are opting for a hybrid work model, where employees can partly work from home and partly from the office.
  • Many people are now relying on the internet for many purposes like educating their children, availing telemedicine facilities etc. But still many people are deprived of internet access. This COVID-19 phase taught us that internet access should be available to all to prevent deepening inequality. In India, the supreme court declared that internet access is a fundamental right in the year 2020.
  • In general, Covid infection was more severe in people with low immunity. So, the pandemic taught us to focus on our eating habits. Now many people are consuming healthy food and avoiding junk food to boost immunity.

I would like to add a point to the above ideas

One lesson which we experienced from the pandemic was to spend the time with our dearest ones. No matter how busy you are in life , spending time with parents, children, siblings gives you a moral boost to our mental health

It exposed just how poorly the CDC communicates with the general population. A simple mailer with graphics explaining how droplets are expelled and then rubbed into the eyes, nose, mouth and open cuts would have explained why masks and washing your hands are important and solved much. Unfortunately, the CDC went back and forth on whether or not wearing a mask was a good idea. In fact, the CDC said that there was no evidence that COVID spread from person to person. So when we look back for lessons to learn, perhaps a good lesson is that the experts don’t know everything and we all need to take personal responsibility for ourselves.

But that would have empowered people to come up with solutions that are just as effective as masks. Less intrusive mechanisms like tissues and handkerchiefs and washing your hands when you got home might have been employed and reduced the psychologically damaging effect of masks on children going to the store.
And maybe it would allow people to realize early on that N95 masks with exhaust values have been useless in fighting the spread of COVID and yet ardent mask supporters still wear them today and chastise those that would rather use a tissue.

It also exposed the political dynamic in our extremely divided world today. Regardless of what any President does in a situation like this his/her political opponents will say its the absolute wrong thing to do and will encourage people to do the opposite. This was true when Trump shut down travel from China early on and was accused of xenophobia and overreaction at the time and today those same people blame Trump for not acting fast enough. Had the President encouraged people to wear masks early on, those same people arguably would have said it is the wrong thing to do and encouraged constituents not to. So what can we learn from this?

It exposed how quickly Governors turn over authority to “experts” and how focusing on the priority of “not letting hospitals become overwhelmed” killed an enormous number of elderly people. Experts told Governors Cuomo and Whitmer to send COVID infected patients back to nursing homes, infecting and killing thousands more. Instead of thinking that through themselves they blindly relied on the “experts” whose number one goal was to stop the hospitals from being overwhelmed with patients, not stopping everyone in nursing homes from dying. So what can we learn from this?

Personal responsibility for your own health and safety is the utmost important lesson to learn from this.
If you are over 65, have COPD, diabetes or are obese, you need to take extreme precautions because you are at high risk of death if you are infected.
Everyone else ought to live their lives as they did before, cough and sneeze into a tissue, a handkerchief or a sleeve at their elbow while in public, wash your hands when you get home, and try not to sneeze on grandma when you get there.

Another thing to learn is that the Tech companies have gotten by rather well without importing H1B workers and US IT worker salaries are going up after a decade of stagnation.

Working from home seems to be working well for a large number of workers and companies. This may reduce our future need to build more office space, this is great for the planet. Fewer cars on the road, less pollution, less carbon in the atmosphere, vehicles will last longer, fewer car crashes, maybe even lower car insurance rates? Zoom, Skype, Google Meet, FaceTime, etc… have been around for a long time but this has forced people to see how valuable these apps are.

The major lesson is that we realized that how inadequate our health care system . We have to invest more on healthcare .

According to me this COVID- 19 pandemic all over the world we have taken a lesson lots of in our professional life and personal life. Though pollution level decreased we are getting fresh oxygen. No need consumerism. But our life has got stuck. In professional life – work from home , not able to go to office. In this six months around stuck in the house. So long time we don’t go outside. If we required urgently then we are going , forcibly we have to stay in the house. At least we are learning when we will
not be able to go to office how we will spend our time.
In personal life House keeping peoples are not coming so we have to do all household chores , no friends and relatives are coming so stay alone. Only virtual talk. We are habituating to stay alone. Even we are not going for shopping also. So it has also stopped . No laugh, no happiness. No visiting here and there, but we are living.

This pandemic proven very hazardous for humanity but this virus turn all of us to a real risky face of nature . Due to this Lockdown pollution scale goes on decreasing everyday and we all realises the value of sociality. Many poor and migrant workers suffers a lot in this lockdown periods. This virus leads to the major role in awaring the mutual humanity relationship among us all.

  • Mahesh, Jul 8, 2020 @ 10:24 pm Reply

It has also given us some time to introspect for ourselves and for the society like developing new habits which we thought for long and implementing now, utilizing lockdown period for self improvement. For students, it also made realise that there is no need for any coaching for big competitive exams.

According to my opinion .due to lockdown many workers suffer alot of problm. they do not have money to buy food. economy of the country also decreasing because of lockdown. and there is no vaccine of corona virus so covid-19 spreading day by day. if vaccine is not made quickly then the situation is worst.
